ㅤportrayal notesㅤ ㅤselina originally started out as the nolan verse version with btas influences. quickly she grew into her own rendition. i take influences from the nolan movies obviously , batman returns , btas , comics , and my own personal experiences / tastes. i do not use any content from the batman 2022 and i do not support zoe kravitz' portrayal of selina. i have no ill will toward her or anyone who does take influence from the portrayal. it's just not for me and will not happen on this blog.
any similarities between this and another version of selina are purely coincidental on my part. i won't approach you if i find out that you've stolen headcanons or ideas from me , and i won't vague about you on the dash. if you steal things from a blog who writes the same muse as you , you ought to be ashamed , but i'm not your mother and it's not my job to discipline you.
selina is mixed cubano and puerto rican on her mother's side , and scottish and english on her father's side. she was raised catholic and still heavily observes her religion. i do have a verse where carmine falcone is her father , but it is only in that verse that i will acknowledge this at all. i don't really enjoy the story and choose not to make it a core part of my portrayal.
selina was forced at a young age to participate in sex work and do things she did not consent to in exchange for payment to her father. it is disgusting and horrendous and , while i do not glamorize it , it is a very large part of who selina is and i will not discredit it or her by not mentioning it in order to not step on toes. all things will be tagged and it isn't as if it's mentioned in every thread or discussed in all dialogue , but it is there. it is a fact. it will be acknowledged.

| 1989 | many different circumstances contributed to brian's drinking problem , but the most important would be the fact that his hours were cut at work. they were forced to sell their home in the east end and move to the narrows , the even poorer part of gotham city. |
| 1990 | brian finally spiraled into full on alcoholism , taking his stress and anger out first on his wife and then later on selina herself. the abuse that maria endured reminded her too much of her own father , and rather than try to leave brian ( since they didn't believe in divorce ), she began abusing drugs of her own. selina was left alone to fend for herself during this time. |

| 1996 | selina is 11 years old , maggie is 4 years old. selina gets herself up and dressed in the morning , she takes care of maggie. she gets herself to school and maggie to daycare without incident. sometimes her father is there when they get home , other times he comes stumbling in after the two have gone to bed. after one too many times of not being able to bathe because the water had been turned off , selina decides to start pick pocketing and stealing for money and food. selina is eleven years old the first time she's arrested for shoplifting. |
| 2000 | by the time she's fifteen , selina's criminal record has quadrupled. not only has she been arrested for shoplifting and breaking and entering , but she's also branched out to prostitution. it wasn't her choice to do so , but when she finally approached her father about the house's bills , he told her he had a friend who would give her $1000 for one night. when she was finished , the man gave brian $300 and spit in selina's face. because of her extra long rap sheet , selina is forced to drop out of school officially and hide out from the GCPD. it is this year that selina begins dressing all in black while breaking and entering. the newspapers begin to run reports about a cat burglar that they've named ' the catwoman '. within months of being named catwoman , she head about another vigilante working in gotham too , he was called batman. |

| 2001 | one night after taking maggie out for ice cream to celebrate a perfect report card , selina walked in to find that her mother had overdosed on heroin in the bathtub. it wasn't the first time selina had witnessed something like this , but it was the first time that she'd discovered maria too late. within months of her mother's passing , brian drank himself into a coma and his organs were too damaged to keep him alive. because of the death of both of their parents , cps was forced to get involved in their lives. the family's home was repossessed by the state due to non ― payment of property taxes , selina was emancipated and then immediately thrown into blackgate prison to pay for her past crimes , and maggie was placed in foster care. when she was finally placed in a permanent home and adopted , her new family refused to allow contact between selina and maggie. |
| 2002 | weeks after her mother's death , while working as her alter ― ego , selina is caught breaking into a museum by the batman himself. despite the clear attraction they both felt , they worked on opposite sides of the law. |
| 2010 | by this time , selina has been working as catwoman for ten years. maggie is on her way to graduating high school , and her adoptive parents have finally decided that she can contact her sister if she wishes. selina and maggie still have a very strong bond , despite not being allowed to see each other for eight years. selina does her best to keep her regular life and her secret identity from maggie , and for the most part , she is successful. |
| 2015 | after a particularly heated discussion between selina and roman sionis , selina believed that she had one. she'd come out on top and she stood to make a lot of money on the connections that she'd stolen from roman. this was until her sister and brother in law were reported missing. she knew immediately that it had been roman , and her fears were confirmed when she went to him and found her brother in law's body. her sister was harder to find , though when she did maggie was conscious enough to tell selina exactly what had happened to her and that it was all her fault. |
